Most everyone looking for a product these days starts with Amazon. Why is that? You can probably get almost anything you are looking for, and at a better price in many cases by shopping Amazon. That’s not the case with CBD.

CBD is more popular than ever before. Now that hemp is legal throughout the United States, more people are intrigued by its benefits. However, there is a lot of insufficient information on the Internet. You can Google CBD and find hundreds of thousands of CBD-related search results. However, little of this information comes from academically-vetted sources. When faced with such misinformation overload, it can be tempting to head straight to Amazon to do your shopping. And why not? Amazon is a recognized name, it’s worldwide, and it has built up credibility in the market. So why not buy CBD here? Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t.

1) Amazon Does Not Allow the Sale of CBD

Most people don’t know that the CBD oil on Amazon isn’t even really CBD oil. Here’s why. Amazon does not allow it. This policy statement was taken from Amazon’s site.

Products containing cannabidiol (CBD), a Schedule I Controlled Substance, including but not limited to: Rich Hemp Oil containing CBD, Full-spectrum hemp oil containing CBD, Products that have been identified as containing CBD by LegitScript” cannot be sold on the site.

Regardless of this clearly-stated policy, you go online and type in ‘CBD oil for sale on Amazon,’ and you’ll get plenty of search results. Why is this? That leads me to the second reason why you shouldn’t buy CBD on Amazon.

2) Amazon Resellers Are Deceiving You

While CBD products are banned on Amazon, hemp products, in general, are not. As a result, sellers can list products as “hemp extract” or “hemp seed oil” without any backlash. In my opinion, this is deceptive. There are crucial differences between CBD oil and hemp seed oil. Cannabidiol and other cannabinoids are produced in the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. Hemp seed oil is made from the seeds which contain almost no CBD whatsoever. Some sellers are marketing and their products as CBD when, in fact, it is nothing but hemp seed oil. Authentic CBD products are more expensive than hemp seed oil. In the Amazon marketplace, sellers often advertise that their product contains “hemp extract,” which usually means the product contains cannabinoids (like CBD). Unsuspecting buyers will spend money on an oil containing “hemp extract” without knowing how much CBD is in the actual tincture. Hemp seed oil offers some benefits. It can be used in cooking and is very healthy and nutritious in its own right. But it’s not CBD. Remember, point one. Amazon does not allow CBD to be sold in their marketplace. So whatever you buy from Amazon might be good drizzling on your salad, but it isn’t CBD. Why would you buy from a seller who openly deceived you into making a purchase? Trust is everything in the market, which leads me to my third and final point.

3) Don’t Buy CBD Without a Certificate of Analysis.

When shopping for CBD, make sure that the product has a COA (certificate of analysis). One of the first things you should look for when purchasing CBD is a third-party lab report. Since the CBD market is unregulated, it is up to distributors to be transparent and show that their products are of high quality. Credible companies will provide you with a COA. These lab tests will show the actual CBD content, validating that they are not just inaccurately labeled hemp seed oil!

CBD and the Bottom Line

The CBD oil for sale on Amazon isn’t what you think it is. If the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If one company sells 1500 mg of CBD for $150 and another company is selling “CBD” for 19.99 on Amazon, there’s probably a catch. When purchasing CBD, it’s essential to buy from a brand that emphasizes that product or focuses on wellness and nutrition. It’s also crucial to buy from a company/distributor that is honest and transparent. And finally, you must know what you’re getting when you buy CBD. Quality is everything.
