As we gather on this Christmas Eve, my heart overflows with gratitude. This season of giving and reflection draws us into the wonder of God’s love for us, shown so beautifully in the miracle of Christmas. Today, I want to share a few things I’m especially thankful for this year, along with a reminder of the ultimate gift we celebrate during this season.

A Heart for Teaching and Coaching

This year marks my 24th year as a teacher and coach, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the journey God has placed me on. To pour into the families in my community, to see students grow into their potential, and to play a small part in shaping their future—this is a blessing I never take for granted. Every lesson taught, every game played, every student encouraged is an opportunity to show Christ’s love.

The Joy of Ministry

Almost 20 years ago, I had the privilege of helping found Bigtime Ministries. Since November of 2006, this ministry has been a beacon of hope, leading students into a growing relationship with Christ and equipping them to be ministers in their schools, families, and communities. Watching God transform lives and call students into their purpose has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

A Community of Travelers

I’m also deeply grateful for the community of travelers I get to do life with. Together, we experience peak-life moments through the gift of travel, and we help others do the same. But it’s more than just seeing the world—it’s about teaching others how to use the gift of travel to build a better life. In a time when so many are battling inflation, our travel community has offered hope and opportunity.

A Church Family to Call Home

For the past 22 years, Church of the Highlands has been my home. God never intended us to do life alone, and being part of a church family has been vital to my own spiritual growth. I’m so grateful for the mission of Highlands: to help people Know God, Find Freedom, Discover their Purpose, and Make a Difference. True freedom is found in a relationship with Christ and in living out His purpose for your life.

The Miracle of Christmas

Most importantly, I am thankful for the miracle of Christmas—the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Matthew 1:22-23 reminds us:

“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”

God with us. These words bring the true meaning of Christmas to life. Jesus came so that you and I could be in a right relationship with God. Through His birth, death, and resurrection, we are restored. Every time I reflect on these words—God is with us—I am reminded that Christmas is not just an event; it is an invitation to a life with Him.

As we celebrate, let’s not lose sight of what we’re truly celebrating. Let’s thank God for the big and small miracles in our lives and live each day in awe of His grace and goodness.
