Sales of nutritional supplements hit almost $14 billion in 2019 and skyrocketed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies point to the benefits of specific supplements in fighting flu and colds.

According to an article recently published in USA Today, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D are the most researched immunity-boosting supplements. Recent research has also revealed the benefits of quercetin and N-acetylcysteine (NAC).

The pandemic has taken its toll on all of us. However, the one silver lining regarding coronavirus is that people are more mindful of the necessity of making good decisions about wellness. Diet and regular exercise are essential, but a daily dose of supplements can not only aid in better health, but they may also help lower the risks of illness. As cold and flu season approaches, these five supplements can help support good health. Here we go!

#1-Zinc

Research reveals that zinc is critical for developing and functioning many immune system cells. The mineral is easily obtained from the diet and is found in meat, eggs, nuts, and seeds. Sales of zinc supplements skyrocketed to an estimated $134 million during the pandemic. Many experts believe that zinc deficiency lowers immune response.

#2-Vitamin C

We’ve all heard about the benefits of Vitamin C. It is the best known and most familiar immune supplement. Similar to zinc, vitamin C plays a crucial role in immune support.

#3-Vitamin D

ACCORDING TO RESEARCH, Vitamin D has been shown to reduce the rate of upper respiratory tract infections. Most of the vitamin D we need is synthesized in the skin by the sun’s UV rays. Unfortunately, most people do not get enough sunlight to obtain maximum levels of this vitamin. That’s one reason I am so passionate about travel and helping people understand the health benefits of getting outdoors. While vitamin D can be found in fish, eggs, and dairy products, supplements can ensure you get the recommended daily amount needed.

#4- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)

NAC is a common supplement that supports comprehensive health. Research has revealed that N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an effective, safe supplement that promotes healthy glutathione levels and encourages liver health and function. NAC is an amino acid necessary for producing essential antioxidants in the human body.

#5-Quercetin

Quercetin, an antioxidant found in berries, leafy greens, and broccoli, can support heart and blood vessel health. According to research, quercetin plays a vital role in fighting free radical damage, the effects of aging, and inflammation. Here are five additional reasons to add quercetin to your wellness regimen.

  • Fights Allergies
  • Improves Energy
  • Promotes Skin Health
  • Supports Liver Health
  • Supports Brain Health
