As we gather with family and friends to celebrate the 4th of July, let’s take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day. It’s a day to honor our nation’s founding principles and the enduring spirit of freedom that defines America.

Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” His words remind us that freedom is a precious gift that requires our constant vigilance and dedication.

Our first President, George Washington, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” It’s our collective responsibility to safeguard the freedoms we hold dear.

As we celebrate, let’s not forget the brave men and women in our military who defend these freedoms every day. John Wayne poignantly reminded us, “Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I’m not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be.” We owe a debt of gratitude to those who serve and protect our nation. Lee Greenwood’s iconic song, “God Bless the USA,” encapsulates the pride and gratitude we feel: “And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.” As we enjoy the fireworks and festivities, let’s commit to praying for the safety and strength of our service members.

Finally, let’s remember the powerful words from the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
